There is life after 40, even in Hoboken. Don't be deceived by the mobs of drunken 20-somethings crowding the bars and streets on weekends. That's just part of the picture.
One of the primary reasons I don't live in Hoboken myself (I live a short drive away and visit often) is the ridiculous parking situation. Unless you feel like being bled white by paying too much for parking in one of the often full garages, you have to factor in an extra half-hour (at least) to find parking on the always packed streets somewhere.
Beyond that, the town, as I'm sure you already know, has much to offer.
