Mayor David Roberts of Hoboken announced his intention to
create a new 8 city block redevelopment zone on the City's
west side.
Roberts plan runs counter to Hoboken’s award-winning Master
Plan, which was adopted by the Planning Board in April,
2004.
The Mayor’s redevelopment plan wipes out over 6 acres of
parkland identified in the Master Plan for the City’s west
side between 8th and 14th Streets.
This Wednesday, a coalition of civic groups from Hoboken,
Jersey City and Union City will demonstrate in support of
the Hoboken Master Plan which calls for park and open space
and against the Mayor’s deal with redevelopers Tarragon/USRA
which is on the agenda for that night’s Zoning Board meeting.
