- to spend a year in another country (or countries), away from the relative comfyness of USA or UK, is indeed a privilege
- I spent a year in Thailand, back in the late 60s - not as primitive as parts of Africa I am sure but, for the most part, very impoverished. Beautiful Buddhist temples everywhere - Most were free to enter and photograph - getting out without a donaton was another matter
