Dear RC,
At a time in my life when no anti-depressant was around that could help me, I was given electroshock treatments. It worked, and I found I had no ill effects in the long run, despite feeling disoriented immediately afterward.
I would think it would be more dangerous to have a suicidally depressed person without electroshock treatment...if that's the last course of action...than the electroshock itself.
