Want to sing in Tokyo

Dear Friends

Greetings from Calcutta, India.

I am a Calcutta-based business executive, social planner, teacher, writer and singer.

I shall be visiting Tokyo for a 2 week business planning training programme, beginning 25 August 2004.

I am a singer of devotional songs (self-composed, and traditional) in the Indian Sufi tradition.

I sing - for the love of singing, and to share this with others. I have so far sung at venues in Puri (India, 2001), Jerusalem (with bassist Jean Claude Jones, 2003) and London (2003).

I am reproducing below some feedback I received after a programme at the Paddington Library in London late last year.

I would be very happy to share my songs with a group of interested people during my stay in Tokyo / Japan.

I would be very grateful to hear from people in this regard and receive any suggestions, advice and contacts.

Thank you, and with best wishes and regards,

Yours sincerely

V Ramaswamy

"May I again thank you for blessing us with your song. I have not since been moved by music so expressive. These days it is rare to hear people do anything simply because they love it. Under the present division of labour the arts have become a 'profession' like any other, and a gulf of alienation opens up between performers and the consumers that constitute an audience. To me, the enchanting intimacy of your recital was an unaffected disavowal of the stage-managed spectacles of professional concerts."

"I enjoyed your singing very much - and as someone said in the audience you managed to make a very public and rather functional surrounding very intimate. I particularly enjoyed your explanations of the songs. Everyone seemed very impressed."

"... thank you for your amazing performance... Somehow you transformed the everyday space of an ordinary library with your songs. Even the passers by seemed affected by the calmness you created around the circle."
