I think that relates more to the concept of man being made in God's image, than believing a part of God is in everyone and everything.
True, we all have egos who misinterpret religion and do horrendous things. The concept of having a part of God within does not deny that people do such things...but those are the actions of the ego. The part of God withing you is apart from from the ego and has none of its nature. To live in accord with the part of God within you is not normal human nature...at least not in this society.
How's that for writing with no coffee in the morning yet?
