An afterthought:
How do we know we're in touch with our spirit guides? A good question. I don't know how others feel about this, but I am personally of the opinion that whenever we use reiki in healing our spirit guide is present. If we then form the intention of communicating with spirit, the mind makes a pathway for the thought, which is as far as I know the way reiki works. So I think spirit has received the request.
The teacher I spoke of had been a strong medium since childhood, and saw and spoke with her guides quite openly in my presence. She is very lucky in this respect, and very unusual. Myself, I've never had a contact with my guide manifested in any way at all, and have to trust to what is happening.
It strikes me that when we pray for someone, we are similarly intruding our compassion into their sacred astral space. Actually, I see no difference between reiki and prayer. Yet in prayer, it is not often that we ask the person's permission. Perhaps we should.
About the disconnectedness of body and spirit. I can't help but see this as a form of illness needing help. If the person does not realise that they are ill, I think that their spirit at least must be painfully aware of the separation. If they were not ill, they would understand and want the healing. Any desire to block universal love is surely a sign of need for healing. But still it is a difficult choice whether to act, because perhaps it is not yet the right time for that person to heal. How can we know what is best in every case? Non-intrusion is a good general rule as a starting point. But maybe we are in need of a new rule which is more comprehensive?
Any thoughts?
