From what i have seen, different attunements work with no problem. As it is mostly intent, a variation should make no difference to the person being able to use reiki.
If you have had to correct the history, by all means teach your students the most correct info you can.
If you find an attunement you think works better, use that as well.
Meditate on the reiki principles-perhaps pray (in whatever form you do this) to be the best reiki practitioner and teacher you can be. Doing this may ease your fears about your lineage and allow you to grow in reiki.
