In most cases a draining of energy during treatment often means you are emotionally involved. Be Careful, don't take on someone elses issues. In my case, Whereas most Reiki practitioners will feel energized after treatment I am tired and relaxed. Remember the energy is traveling through you first you are recieving a treatment also, so it is possible you may feel as relaxed as the person who is getting the treatment. There are a few things you could consider. In my case I also channel Earth energy which turns on automatically whenever I am channeling Reiki, This energy comes through my feet and often leaves me tired and relaxed. When you are opened up and sending energy you are also open to other things, their energy and all that comes along with it. Before treatment I always do my protection work. Whether you visualize the white light surrounding you or you close yourself behind elevator doors, be sure to state your intent. It really helps keep the hitch hikers from their energy from attaching to yours and draining you. Also Reiki is light, the light attracts all sorts of things. Just like when we may see spirits, how do they know we can see them or sense them, because one thing that can be seen spiritually is the light. Whether you can see them or not, they can see your light, some come out of curiousity, some for healing, and some that are just pain in the butt. Do your protection work. Also if there is a leak in our energy field it will make us feel drained. Find the leak and do repairs. Sometimes if we are empaths we will experience that drained feeling. Everyone is different but through others experiences we can help find the answer thats fits us. But most common of all is what the others have stated, too emotionally involved. Stay out of ego. People believe ego as always being this ugly thing having to do with pride and bragging, but alot of times in the healing field it is our dedication to healing, wanting to help, wanting to make things better. A very loving sentiment but can be dangerous. Willing someone to get better is messing with the contracts they have made with the universe. It has to be there choice, and their doing in order for them to recieve the full benefits of their healing and lessons.
Hope you were able to get something out of this. Trust your instincts. You are a being of light. They will tell you what to do.
PS. Reiki does not cross free will. Someone who has not verbally or spiritually agreed to recieve Reiki will not recieve it. They have to agree on some level. Remember it is not up to you to decide. They will agree or not agree to recieve whether spiritually or physically and that is between them and the energy not you and them. So don't worry about that boundary Reiki can not cross free will and wont. Have had people say they wanted it but spiritually would not allow it yet. Let them and the energy decide. If someone says they do not want it then don't bother trying to cross their free will it wont work. Ever notice when you are sitting next to someone and the energy just turns on, did the person next to you ask for it. No not physically, but spiritually there was an agreement made between the energy and the person. Who are we to deny it. We agreed to be a channel for the energy not its owner. So don't worry Reiki will go where it needs to it has its own agenda. We ask when we can out of respect for another person we are not always in the position to contact the person directly and so then we let Reiki make the offer to them spiritually. It is merely listed in the rule book to help keep us from going in to ego will. Reiki is not something that can be controlled, manipulated, or willed. It will shut off first. And we will be the only ones suffering from that mistake. When we will energy it is not Reiki being used it is our own life force we are sending. There are many practitioners who use their own life force for healing but the also know how to replenish. Which is where someone would suffer not knowing how to replinish, and if you will energy (your life force) with out permission you are messing with the universal contracts and will have to deal with the consequenses. Remember we are only the plumbing (pipe), not the person that asked for water and not the water that flows through us.
