When you start a sentence with “Rich, you will never be allowed to…” It is personal to me. It was not a statement to someone else or to the world in general.
However you now sound as if you did not mean it the way you wrote it.

Lastly,
As posted above in this thread (please read it if you have not already) I do ask permission I just don’t make a big deal of it. There is a certain level of permission that I assume.
It is like going to a dentist. It is assumed that the dentist is going to look in your mouth and still the dentist will ask you to open your mouth. (this may not be the best example but I hope it works well enough to make my point.)
