Well my humble view is that you have the idea backwards a little.Of course I can only go by what is said as it is written and thus interpretted by my person.
You say that you wish to end negative engagements because it only brings negativity back to you.
Being positive for gain is not really being positive.
I think when you go with the idea that one should be compassionate to be compassionate and not look for how things will change or for what will improve but do it because it is who you are then you will see the benefits you are looking for.
And also there is no telling how this positive return would manifest. there's no hard fast rule that says when you are nice and polite to an individual they are going to treat you that way in return. In being nice to her some other area of your life may recieve this energy.
Then again the way to go might be you leaving or them leaving.
Also a week is a rather short time for such things.
