When we recognize the source of our 'fears' (our Shadow) then we can decide if we wish to challenge them and how we might wish to go about doing this. This process is also one of 'thought'. Resolving Karma is clearing olde baggage. But, remember that the 'negative' thoughts and emotions you continue to generate along the way will need to be dealt with, Karmiucally, later on (which may be during the your next incarnation). Compassionate living also includes not harming oneself. Mindfulness meditation training and practice might be helpful.
