Sometimes we care too much about how others opinions. Not that a whole lot of them can have much of a one about Reiki. Especially when they probably never heard of it.
For them that throw stones, throw them back and run like H _ _ _. Really, if you are kind of prepared you can just let it roll off. They need education, but you aren't the one to do the educating or they wouldn't be throwing those rocks.
Some people surprise you with their openness and others get scared to death. My s-i-law is one of those. He would rather suffer than take a chance that something evil will happen. I can Reiki his family, just don't tell him about it. (His words) He has a big surprise coming, his 5-year old is tracking quite well for a Reiki attunement. (Mom's okay with it) She loves putting her hands on you to make you feel better, and the 2-year old is right behind. She Reiki's her baby dolls). Kinda cute. We will have a whole family of Reiki'ers.
There is always a positive side. You just discovered the negative of the positive. You reminded several people out there that their opinions are only one of many and nothing is set in stone. And you got a reminder that there are such people out there....so prepare yourself. They may be loud and obnoxious, but it's still only their opinion.
