I went to see Spiritualized tonight at the Riverside Church in upper Manhattan (just got back, in fact). At first I didn't know what to make of them since they started out slow, but eventually they picked up the pace. Which isn't to say, of course, that the entire concert didn't feel SLOW (though not boring). It was like being in a smoke-filled room for 2 hours straight and feeling stoned out of your mind without taking a single hit. Oh, and the lighting was incredible. Like a modern-day Pink Floyd, sorta. Most of the songs they played were from their last 2 records (though no "Broken Heart", "Stay With Me", or "I Think I'm in Love", unfortunately), but they played a few older ones, including an amazing version of "Shine A Light" and they closed with an even more amazing version of "Lord Can You Hear Me" (the last song on their latest album). I don't know if I'd see them again, but if you haven't seen them and they come back, make it a point to go.
