Schedule permitting, I'm going to be starting a series of outtings called "Cheap Eats" which will be *exactly* that, for those of us who are perhaps not living so large at the moment. I have a few places in mind but would like to hear some suggestions, especially in Jersey City (where the people are pretty).
First up will be dinner at Nha Trang Place (vietnamese food), this Friday July 2 at 7:30 pm. The address is 247-249 Newark Ave in JC. It's one block from the Grove Street PATH.
You must RSVP by Wednesday June 30 if you want to attend.
Ideally places must be BYO. (For the record, BYO means if you want to drink something, **bring it**, don't count on the organizer or attendees of the event to keep you slushed up.)

How 'bout some Fancy Feast. At 59 cents a can you can't go wrong. Comes in many flavors.

I might suggest Hard Grove Cafe in Jersey City as well..great food , inexpensive..and right near the Grove Sreet Path station..and you can sit outside which is a great perk as well...

it's not BYO but it's good food and not expensive (citysearch lists it as $20 and under for average 3-course dinner).
I have been there once. They have good tea too!

how about some pot luck dinners..we could host one at one persons place one night a week or weekend ..my friend and i used to do what we call dinners and a movie for under $20 ..and it even included a huge bottle of gallo brothers wine (not that i advocate that lol but ya know it goes with the spirit of the event) and we ended with a cheesy film

This would be fun! Maybe a w/e might be better though because the likelihood of getting me to make/bake something during the week is slim ;-)

We were thinking of a weekend event..maybe something along the idea of a dinner and movie..we could split it up one person hosts the event at their place, someone makes dinner or we could all help , then one person could make desert and another the wine..my friends from Boston and I used to do this alot it was fun..and the people who dont bake , cook could bring the wine or the movie..plus we were thinking more of doing this in the fall....

Windy, thanks for organizing this. The food was awesome, and definitely a cheap eat! I look forward to the next one.
