CELEBRITIES TAKE ON LYME DISEASE AT THE NET

FUNDRAISER MAY BECOME BIGGEST BATTLE OF NEW YORK STARS

Flushing Meadows) September 10, 04 In what is expected to become an annual showcase of media competition and compassion, Fox 5’s John Discepolo, News 12’s Michael Coleman, WABC’s Marvel Scott and The Wall Street Journal’s Tom Herman are just some of the big names who will battle it out on center court at Arthur Ashe stadium Saturday September 18th. More than a dozen New York celebrities have already committed to taking part in the Third Annual AT THE NET Tennis Event and Tournament to raise money for the fight against Lyme disease.

The tournament is the public's special invitation to play these celebrities. AT THE NET also offers the public an exclusive ticket to play on Center Court with tennis sensations Johan Kriek and Tom Gullikson. These two pros have collectively won 15 singles titles and 18 doubles titles. Former New York Giant Phil McConkey will head up the doubles competition.

Turn the Corner Foundation's Staci Grodin says " This is a star-studded all-day event for the entire family. Every player is guaranteed at least one match on Center court in Arthur Ashe stadium. We’ll have free massages and other physiological treatments as well as an elaborate auction. Sweepstakes items include the opportunity to join McConkey on the sidelines of a New York Giants game! A full-day rental of a stunning Ferrari 360 Modena and many other amazing items will also be given away! There will be all day entertainment for kids, too.”

This year Turn The Corner kicks off its new Lyme disease awareness campaign called " You May Have It And Not Know It." According to the CDC, Lyme disease may be under reported by tenfold. Lyme is the number one insect transmitted disease and can be misdiagnosed as other diseases resulting in blindness or even severe neurological disorders.

Tennis Pros and Lyme disease patients are available for interviews.
