Thanks to everyone who came out to game night. It was a blast. For those of you who were not able to make it last night, don't worry, there will more of these events in the future.

Are you kidding? thank YOU for hosting!

For those who haven't been to any kind of game night before - here's what it was like - there were more than enough games [detail about some below] set up on a bunch of tables and chairs all around, cool people [lots of them, too!] both familiar and new, pizza, ice cream, snacks, drinks

I played
- three games of Apples to Apples that I have played before [the way it's played each player holds 7 red cards, then take turns putting down a green card. On all cards are words, the person who put down the green card picks the word that goes best with the word on the green card, either literally or a funny match. After the green card is put down, each person puts down a red card quickly, all but one person [the last to put one down]. The person who put down the red card that was picked gets the green card and you win by having a certain number of green cards. Words are everything from people, places, funky objects, adjectives

-Whatzit [basic point is on one side of the card is a word clue that you use to guess the phrase on the other side of the card, after a while you get the hang of the type of clues, some of the phrases were well known but some we had never heard of. A board game is used with the cards and a pair of die,you roll both each time to know how many spaces to move and how many people guess the phrase, it's timed with an hourglass when you guess. Sometimes you guess alone, sometimes all [whoever guesses first wins that one] or you have a 1:1 challenge and you pick who you compete against, landing on white means you are asked from the regular pile, yellow from the wicked [harder] pile, the person on your right shows the question, knows the answer, doesn't play that round]

- Clue [old classic]

- a story game [don't remember the name] with a photo on one side, and past of the story on the other, with a question for you to figure out by asking the person holding the card questions. freaky pictures, some dark themes...

- "yes, but" [see my post on the writers message board] - we were going to play this souped-up revolving scrabble but didn't

Other people played poker and there were games that were brought that never made it out - cards [to play spades], charades, dominos, tarot [ok, some people will get pissy and say it's not a game, and actually someone had suggested mixing those cards in with apples to apples so we could do things like throw a card down for people to free associate with "death!"]

Anyway, when is the next one??

Great game night!
This was my first game night and I had a great time and met alot of new people. It was nice to have something fun to do while getting to know people, other than stand around a bar.

Let me know when the next game night is, I'll be there.

It was a great evening! Mike thanks for hosting. I am glad Daphna strongly encouraged you to start this up again. I had so much fun, especially playing whatiz (or however that was spelled)- I would never believe that demonstrating what you don't know could be so much fun!! I still don't get some of those puzzles.

Hats off to everyone who played that game!

Mike--Thanks so much for hosting the event. Game night was fun, especially playing poker (my 1st time, no less!).

Thanks again!

Oh, I'm not sure if I'm falling for that sweet and innocent 'my 1st time' routine. You were cleaning us all out by the end.

It was a fun game though.

Thanks Mike. You set the night up well. Oddly enough I think the game of Set is helped by a couple drinks. But Apples to Apples is great no matter what. Good fun. I'm not sure if I need to play Welcome Back Kotter again though, but it was fun to do once and the night was a great way to meet some fun people.

I can't believe they had a board game for that show. Do you have to know about the show in order to win? I see it is back on in reruns so maybe I better start watching so I can be ready for the next game night!

Actually the game is largely luck. It's way more fun if you've seen the shows, but you can still get most of the jokes regardless. We found it on the street and thought we might have a real collector's item, but I checked eBay and they sell for a few dollars. So if you can't wait 'till next game night http://ebay.com

Thanks for running a great game night... I had a great time and it was great meeting everyone. Next time we will have to play some "Spades", or... if anyone is feeling into ot (and neat) we could even play some beer pong...!!!

It was at my place. We had just over 20 people there. There was no cover, but as I always have to get a lot of stuff to prepare for a party and I want to have them regularly, I do plan on asking for a small cover charge for future game nights.

I'm still picking a date for the next Game Night, but I will post it soon.

Thanks, but you won fair and square. I had a couple of lucky turns and got a quick lead. It seems like the tables can turn pretty quickly in that game.

No problem. I learn more every day when I play. So bring it on. I think next time, we will do small and big blinds ante.

IF we are doing casino night, we will have to get more chips. A lot more.
