Are you kidding? thank YOU for hosting!
For those who haven't been to any kind of game night before - here's what it was like - there were more than enough games [detail about some below] set up on a bunch of tables and chairs all around, cool people [lots of them, too!] both familiar and new, pizza, ice cream, snacks, drinks
I played
- three games of Apples to Apples that I have played before [the way it's played each player holds 7 red cards, then take turns putting down a green card. On all cards are words, the person who put down the green card picks the word that goes best with the word on the green card, either literally or a funny match. After the green card is put down, each person puts down a red card quickly, all but one person [the last to put one down]. The person who put down the red card that was picked gets the green card and you win by having a certain number of green cards. Words are everything from people, places, funky objects, adjectives
-Whatzit [basic point is on one side of the card is a word clue that you use to guess the phrase on the other side of the card, after a while you get the hang of the type of clues, some of the phrases were well known but some we had never heard of. A board game is used with the cards and a pair of die,you roll both each time to know how many spaces to move and how many people guess the phrase, it's timed with an hourglass when you guess. Sometimes you guess alone, sometimes all [whoever guesses first wins that one] or you have a 1:1 challenge and you pick who you compete against, landing on white means you are asked from the regular pile, yellow from the wicked [harder] pile, the person on your right shows the question, knows the answer, doesn't play that round]
- Clue [old classic]
- a story game [don't remember the name] with a photo on one side, and past of the story on the other, with a question for you to figure out by asking the person holding the card questions. freaky pictures, some dark themes...
- "yes, but" [see my post on the writers message board] - we were going to play this souped-up revolving scrabble but didn't
Other people played poker and there were games that were brought that never made it out - cards [to play spades], charades, dominos, tarot [ok, some people will get pissy and say it's not a game, and actually someone had suggested mixing those cards in with apples to apples so we could do things like throw a card down for people to free associate with "death!"]
Anyway, when is the next one??
