Review of Zogsports Dodgeball in Hoboken

If you have been wondering what the deal is with the Dodgeball league in Hoboken, I checked out a game last spring and it looks like a blast.

Zogsports is a sports activity group that donates a portion of its proceeds to charity. Chris Corban runs the newly created New Jersey chapter of Zogsports and lives right here in Hoboken.

You can join with a group of friends to form you own team or you can be assigned to a team. They play on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights at a local school gym. They have a few divisions based on how serious you are from ultra competetive to the just having fun. After the games they get together at a local bar for some drinks.

The balls are very soft, so nobody got hurt playing the game. The object is to eleminate your competition by hitting them with soft nurf-like dodge balls. If you hit an opponent, he or she has to leave the game. If you catch a ball that is thrown at you, the person who threw it has to leave the game and you can allow one of your team mates back in.

There was a diverse range of people involved but it was mostly people in their 20's to early 30's. If you are a single women looking to meet young athletic guys, I would highly recomend this event as there were a lot more guys than girls attending and most of them were the young, athletic type.

Mike,

Thanks for the GREAT review! You are correct, this league is an absolute blast... just picture a few dozen young professionals in the gym whipping dodgeballs at each other. So much fun! And as you mentioned, we use foam balls so nobody gets hurt.

As for the social aspect of our league, while we are technically not a dating service, we do encourage everyone to have fun and get to know not only their teammates, but also their opponents. Our goal is to get everyone involved to split a pitcher of beer after the game. As a result, you have a great venue for meeting new people with similar interests, in a non-threatening enviornment.

We hope to get everyone involved so we have three levels of competitiveness. We have an "extremely casual" league for those who simply want to have a great time and meet new people, but have never played dodgeball before... a "players" league for the ex-jocks who want to relive their glory years by taking the game a bit more seriously... and then one league in between which offers the benifits of the fun-casual style while still having skilled players.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Hope to see you on the court soon!
