Any chance Hoboken will go smoke-free like New York? It would make even having dinner a lot more pleasant.

Hard to say. I was surprised when the law past in NY.

What I have noticed of late is an increased number of people smoking in bars in Hoboken - probably the influx from Manhattan.

I can't take it anymore. I go out in the City instead. More interesting crowd.

Well I still have my hopes. It just adds to the many reasons why I find going out in Hoboken to be unpleasant--and I'm not talking about just bars, I think I should be able to eat dinner without needing to get my clothes dry-cleaned afterwards.

Yeah LB, how selfish of you. How dare you place the enjoyment and health of the many ahead of the cravings of a few.

Shame on you.

Because the intent of the propose law similar to NY where you will have to smoke outside or within your own home. The dispute is that smokers WANTS to smoke in bars and restaurants and with freedom of liberties, smokers believe that they wish to smoke anywhere they please within reason. To be kick out just to smoke, they believe is NOT within reason.

Of course, I believe that we should breathe free air and not be impose with smokers freedom. I would be glad to have a smoke designated area where the entire group is enclosed in another room. They have their own air to pollute and it does not mix in with the smokers.

In fact, to point out the intent of the NY law, it was designed to protect waiters and employees who are forced to serve to smokers and breath second hand smoke. If that is the case, I would just hire waiters who don't mind the second hand smoke BUT give them higher pay (hazard pay ofyou will), instead of passing the law. We (NY since I am from there) lose revenue because people in NY want to drink and smoke without having to go outside and face the natural elements. Thus you can have the waiters sell cigarettes if the patrons desired such to generate extra revenue for the bar, restaurant, etc.
