Anyone else detest Valentine's Day? (Feb 15th starts St. Patrick's Day celebrations, it seems...)

detest would be a bit strong for me. I do dislike the commercial aspect of it all-if you are in a relationship you're expected to give something to show love/committment/contentment and suddenly roses are $25.00 a dozen at the Bodaga's etc.. when usally they're 10.00.
Buying an expensive gift on Valentine's day doesn't say "I love you" to me as much as a small, thoughtful one on any other day.

I don't detest it.I didn't detest it,when I wasn't involved.I always felt when I wasn't involved that it would have been nice to have someone to spend VD Day with, now that I do,I'm kinda not phased.I guess I'm gettin old and there's such much other stuff goin on that it doesn't matter.I have an old friend,we don't see each other any longer, she got married and moved away, but she calls me every year and says "Happy VD Day Dawn".I'm getting off the beaten track here.I don't like the commercialization either. The restaurants double their prices, treat you shabbily etc.The card stores sell out.The prices of flowers and gifts go through the roof.I think celebrating at home,at another time,or not needing a designated day to be thoughtful are all good alternatives.
