Ok, now I know it can be done.
There is a game site I went to that has a chat room. Anyway, I noticed that this chat room had a doorbell when people enter into the room. Also this chat room leaves the past 20 messages posted in the room in case people left their computer for a couple of minutes. So people can put in the chat room BRB (Be Right Back) when they step away and then return (typing in back). There has to be someone in the room for the 20 msg to be retain.
Well, just a suggestion.

Yeah,
This would be a nice feature and when I get a chance, I will look into it, but as Liss mentioned, chat isn't a big thing at the moment. To tell the truth, it's just much easier talking to people at events. At the moment, there are some other sections I'm working on, so it will be a while before I can address this.
