I just confirmation on my suspicion with my brother PC. He was recent infected with the sasser virus and was a victim of a remote shutdown. When I initially examined his machine I noticed two things that was not right. A process called tgcmd was running which I later confirmed as spyware. Another process called avserve which my brother later confirmed for me was the sasser virus (after updating his virus protection)
Though sasser does not shutdown your machine, it DOES take your machine and attacks someone elses in some fashion.
I suggest updating your virus databases or buy some antivirus software as a preventive measure if you are not infected.

If you want to get rid of it immediately, download a free virus scanner from any popular virus protection company (Symantec, McAfee, Trend Micro, F-Prot) and scan your machine. For more preventive measures, buy their software and subscribe to their one year service (if you can afford it) to downlaoding the latest virus database.
For the poor man protection, you really need to know how your computer works (like settings on your e-mail and web browser) which for me, I could go on for days and days typing stuff up.
Also, using IE (Internet Explorer) and update your operating system (Win2k or XP) by visiting http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com WARNING: If you have never done this and you are on a dialup, it will take a VERY LONG TIME to download all of your patches.
