Does anyone know how to get rid of mice, when monthly visits from the exterminator and traps and poison aren't working? My landlord is not pet-friendly,so I can't get a cat. Thanks, Dawn Larson.

There's this pide piper guy who comes through occassionally and plays this magic flute then leads the mice away.

“Plays his magic flute”???

Does this board always have to revert to THAT topic over and over.

Anyway, I’ve heard that some people have had success with those electronic noise devices. Also, perhaps some mothballs or small dishes of ammonia where you think they might be coming in (inside cupboards, etc.).

Does your LL live in the building? With luck you’ll drive them to his pad.

i was an exterminator for a year , and its hard to get rid of mice. do you have neighbers? do they have kids?you could be a clean person but its always the people who live next door.
other advice: buy brillo pads cut them in pieces and cover any holes you might think their coming from. mice are smart
so poison rarely works, or just buy glue pads hey work fine.

When I worked at Saks Fifth Ave., we had this cute little brown mouse that lived in out area(on the 4th flr). They stuck those Brillo pads in the wall, but he would just push them out. He would even come out on the floor when the store was open. I thought he was cute.

Dawn, have you told the Building Management Company? Who do you have?

When I move my stuff from my stuff from my parent house to my relatives (helping them fix the house and I get to live rent free), I was told after the fact that my parents have a mouse problem. Here is what we did

1. Do not disturb the area that they live in. Meaning do not clean the area. Once you clear the area, they will scatter and you won't know where their next nest will be. Usually it will be areas of clutter where they can hide and out of view. Anything you do not want the mouse to touch, put in hard plastic 50 gallon containers.
2. Buy lots of glue traps. We ended up with 32 glue traps. Put chocolate on the center. Wherever you saw the mice, you need to place three traps in the room along the wall.
3. Do not eat in the areas where you saw the mice. You can leave crumbs. Starve them to the chocolate.
4. Do not leave loose paper around the floor or anywhere the mice can get to. Mice can eat paper, plaster, etc if there is nothing else to feed on.

Be aware that they have litter every 3 months (I think). So if you don't catch the mother, she can pop out another litter for you to have fun.

We caught about 7 little mice and 1 medium size and 1 very large size. Afterwards, we have not seen them since. Nor any evidence of leftovers (mice poo is a clear sign). Once confirmed, we sanitized the area and made sure we clean the house so it is free of crumbs, loose paper, clothing etc... there is nothing for them to eat.

If there are any holes in the walls, I suggest sealing them up with metal grate and plaster. They can eat thru plaster and push thru metal but at least it will take them awhile before they can break thru. Usually, they try to find another way in unless they are desparate.

And if you landlord is not pet-friendly, he needs to hire a better exterminator for those DAMN MICE!

Now why whould you want to get rid of the mice...do you mean to tell me that they all do not have the voice of Michael J. Fox??!

Just as an FYI - I have seen mice chew off thier own limbs to get out of a glue trap, and one you have caught a mouse in a glue trap is it up to you to kill it..or you can let it writhe in the trash and starve to death...either way not a really nice demise...

as much as I am not about killing animals unless you are gonna eat 'em...I would suggest getting a cat regardless...becuase they are just so damn cute and they will proudly bring you each mouse that they catch..or at least part of it...and granted it maybe on your pillow...but a gift is a gift...

your landlord has a legal obligation to rid your house of vermin and if they are not going to take care of the problem you can get your 'sue on'...

I can definitely say that when we caught these mice, we immediately took them very far away from your house before they had a chance to chew off their limbs.

Sounds about right....

Hopefully they crawl up and die in your neighbor side.
