Wireless Question

Hi Everyone,
I have a random question - I'll be moving to Hoboken soon and I was just wondering what cell phone services are good in the Hoboken/Jersey City/NYC area. I know that different companies have varying qualities of reception in different parts of the country, and I was just wondering if anyone has had particularly good or bad experiences with that they could share with me...Thanks a lot!

Hi, I have Verizon and get good reception from 10th street. But it seems the closer you get to downtown Hoboken the worse the service gets.

Welcome to the Mile Square!

I'm downtown Hoboken, a few blocks west off Washington, and I've been quite happy with Verizon.

I had to switch from AT&T, which was horrible reception for me, everywhere I wanted to be! Oddly, I could get a signal the entire length of the Holland Tunnel, but NOWHERE in my apt or office.

That being said, it's all relative, you'll never know until you pick one and check it out. Be sure to read the fine print, as most have a agreement that allows anywhere from 10-30 days to cancel and get full money back.

Oh, and you might want to note if you can check your mintues online, and to see if you are close to going over. (quite handy near the end of the month!)

welcome to the neighborhood,
-red

This drove me crazy too. You're safe with AT&T and/or Verizon.

When I first moved to Hoboken, my service was pretty bad. I called up my provider and asked them if there was anything they could do. There is.

They can reset your connection (I guess not all our cell phones are connected to the same towers) and find you a stronger signal.

So don't sweat it. You should be safe.

jez
AT&T have just moved onto a GSM service which is slightly more reliable that Sprint and Verizon's older technology.

Verizon's service is saturated in the NY area.

I use T-Mobile. Never had any problems.
