So I just wrapped up a whirlwind five day tour of southern VT. Only once before have I experienced such high temps.
Sure, the snow was soft and carvable (is that a word?) but by monday, it was wet and sticky after 11:30 am or so. Only on the steepest trails could I get enough speed to overcome the drag caused by the "water suction" (as labled by a Boston guy I spoke to).
So it would go from great to unskiable (is THAT a word?) in the span of a half hour. Bare patches started to appear everywhere - even at the summit. Yesterday brought late afternoon rain. Hard rain.
VT needs some cold air and storms fast. The warm weather is supposed to hang on through the weekend, tho.
This is always a tough thing to deal with. I'll be ok. *sniff*

Well hang in there - all hope is not lost!! Last year, I went skiing for the very first time in my life in Vermont during the first week of April. People kept looking at me kind of funny when I said I was going skiing for the weekend. But, it happened to snow 10 inches the week before I went, and I drove up in blizzard conditions. Snow and more snow -very nice for my first time.

I went to Hunter mountain in upstate new york this week for a full day of snow blading and it wasn't that bad at all. It was kind of warm but the snow was for the most part compact and there is always next year to look forward to.

So wrong!
I went to Bellayre again yesterday at the insistence of friends.
It was GREAT.
No lift lines, cheap lift tickets, bright sunshine, few people in my way. The snow was NOT BAD AT ALL.
So forget my doom-and-gloom post above. It's not over. Not for another 3-4 weeks.
