A fitness observation

Some of you know me as a borderline fitness nazi - what with all my marathon training, gym ratting, etc. Some also know that my running was side-lined due to a foot injury that stupidity brought me last fall.

I was concerned that the lack of cardio I would experience due to my switching to stairmasters, bikes, etc. would lead me to fatcity.

So I cut back on the junk. Way back. I became very careful to eat balanced meals with a minimum of sugar and fat (soda, fries, peanut M&M's). No pints at the bar, either. Wine or hard liquor only. And a minimum there too.

Guess what? Fat actually came off faster than all but my peak marathon training weeks.

My conclusion: if you want to lose fat eating less and eating better goes a long way. It just takes will power. The more "comfort food" you eat, the more you will "need."

Thanks lawndart. There was recently a very interesting article in Vogue about how there are more obese people than ever before. There's some scientific talk of a fat gene that activates a certain hormone making it hard to lose weight and curb the appetite. However, from travelling and talking to people of all different nationalities, one thing that comes up, and nutritionists and scientists are starting to speak out about this too, is that it is literally the composition of American food. The additives do more than just preserve, they add a lot of corn sugar and sugary emulsifiers that make our food more caloric ounce for ounce than food in other countries.

Lawndart,
This is a wonderful observation. It is important to realize that weight loss and subsequent body fat loss can only occur when Energy In is less than Energy Out. Your personal experience shows perfectly that this can be done when either food and drink are decreased, and or exercise is increased, preferably both. I explain this in further detail in my "Truth About Weight Loss Article" found in the Article section of Hobokencafe.com
I must also ask permission to use your quote at the end of your post, I don't think I have ever heard it put better.
Thanks Again,
