I'm in the market for a cell phone and was wondering what you all recommend. Who's your carrier and are you happy with them?

I have had AT&T for like 7 years now and with a few exceptions their service is pretty solid. Verizon is also good I believe. Heard some bad things about T-Mobile.

Bill, in my personal opinion, stay FAR FAR away from AT&T! I got a new phone with them 12/2 and the signal was terrible (it was a GSM phone, the NEC 525) both the orignal phone and the replacement phone they sent me didn't work (calls would drop within 5 minutes or less) and most importantly, their customer service is horrible (they did not anticipate the increased volume with local # portability well) Usually, it takes 30-60 minutes to get through.

So then I got a new phone with Verizon and it's been fine and their customer service picks right up. Verizon is the most expensive and the only one that doesn't offer gimmicks (free fridays, rollover, nights starting at 7 pm, etc) but that's probably cause they don't have to bother to offer these things...

When I saw the previous post about AT&T I thought you might have a word or to of advice. Yeah, I've heard a couple stories like yours about them. Anyway, I have a personal grudge as in high school most everybody's dad was fired by them (including mine, thought they hired him back a month later).

I've decided to go with Verizon. Most posts on the net say what you said: it costs a bit more, but the coverage is unsurpased (at least in the tri-state area).

I had a bad experience with Verizon business, but I understand they have a complete division in the company between personal and business accounts. And if Verizon turns out to be a pain, we can have sympathy complain to each other.

is absolutely awful. I recently purchased an AT&T Blackberry phone for work and I am packaging the thing up and sending it on its merry way back. For two days I have been trying to get in touch with AT&T wireless and can't get a straght answer from anyone there. Not only do you have to wait on hold for an extraordinary amount of time, but when I finally get to speak to someone, they tell me they can't help me or I have call another number for this problem. Right now, I have 5 different numbers for AT&T wireless in front of me!! I am just so fed up with the whole thing I am sending the product back.

As far as cell phones go, I have Verizon wireless (which is a separate corporate entity from the Verizon that monopolizes land lines). I used to have Sprint service which I had no complaints about either.

Funny you should ask. I JUST moved here from Bflo Ny and had Sprint which I HATED. Evry time I tried to use my cell phone, the signal faded. Well, I just went to Wireless Solutions on Washington and got a great deal with T Mobile. I have had it for 4 days now and the service is great. My boyfriend and I got great deals in terms of plans and nice phones. The phones we got basically were FREE b/c they had full rebates. Check it out though. By far it was the best deal out there for us. Stay away from SPRINT though.
