I'm mad at the GAP

I went to a GAP store with my gf last week to purchase a sweater and while shopping, kissed my gf a few times. It was in no way inappropriate, we are a young professional couple and hold hands and exchange innocent "pecks" in public.

All of a sudden a store employee "Get out! This is a store, not a showcase."

At this point I asked the employee to show me the instructions which prohibited me from being affectionate with my gf, to which he said "I am the instructions, you do what I tell you to do. Now get out of the store." He then escorted us out of the store, we were treated like common criminals, humiliated and embarassed. Other store employees declined to get involved in this.

I want to find out if I can sue GAP or the employee for high handed behaviour, which caused us mental anguish.

Thanks for your consideration.

wow!

Well, you have 2 choices. Free clothes for life from the Gap or some cash? This is crazy coming from an employee and I would do a test, of sorts, with another couple near the same manager at the Gap to verify the same treatment. Then get their name, get an attorney, contact the corporate headquarters, and file a lawsuit (if you are that mentally damaged). A smart NYC attorney would probably take this at no charge to you because it is so blatant and the potential is huge!
At minimum I would contact Gap headquarters and file a complaint.

Then, tell us all which store it is so we can boycott it, and/or mess with the manager and go in with our partners and make out. LOL!

I bet you can sue. . .I'd call Gap Corp and ask them about security camera feeds, I worked at Gap for a while, I know they have it. . .then thouroughly tell them your story and how you were treated, etc. . .If you can't sue, I bet you'll get a good gift certificate out of it!

Sorry to say this but usually the management has the right to ask anyone to leave for just about any reason. As long of course as they are not breaking civil rights laws while doing so.

If you are black and your SO is white or vice versa and he specifically mentioned this fact while telling you to leave, you may have a case but otherwise I'd just say to take your business elsewhere.

Remember guys this is America and people have the right to be rude. Or it least it used to be America. <sigh>

On the other hand, not everyone enjoys witnessing others' PDA's - to them, PDA's, face sucking in particular, are a form of rudeness.

Uncomfortable customers don't usually buy stuff. This usually makes managers unhappy.

Just saying.

Well, I am glad I sold my stock of the GAP. That is certainly a disappointment. Call the company to file a complaint. I would not sue, it is too much trouble but get the weasl fired for poor customer service.

I spoke to a few lawyers, but they said they can't handle a case like this as there were no visible damages to me.

Its the Gap in Pavonia Newport Mall. The employee's name is Terrell.

I used to work for the Gap Inc. Corporate Design Office in Manhattan. This isn't normal behavior. I was not surprised when you said it was Newport, I don't think it would have happened in Manhattan. I also doubt this guy was the store manager too. If write to the district manager they may give you some kind of discount or gift card, I am not sure. And they will most likely at least disipline the employee. They will not want to lose you as a customer. Don't blame the whole company something just one employee at one store did. Rude service is one of the reasons I never go to the Newport mall! Don't forget Gap owns Banana Republic and Old Navy too. Between the three of them they definitely have lots of good clothes.

Maybe the employee was undersexed and bitter. If this happens again, offer a kiss from your girlfriend.
