I was shocked to learn that Ron O'Neal passed away last week of pancreatic cancer at age 66. Ironically, it was the same week that "Superfly" debuted on DVD.
"Superfly" was so popular and controversial that O'Neal could not shake the stigma of playing a drug dealer, a shame considering his talent.

Unfortuantely, that happens to many actors (type cast). Sometimes they are too good for their own good.

Yeah, but he was a black guy playing a drug dealer long before it was fashionable for blacks to portray such negative images.
