Hi:

Who do you recommend as a reliable internet provider with good customer support? And yes, sadly, I still use dial up service. Thanks.

Windy

It sux that you have had so much trouble with Earthlink. I use them--well, I started out with Netcom many moons ago and then just sort of went with the flow as it proceeded to get swallowed by bigger companies, eventually earthlink. When I had to rely on Earthlink dial-up though (as some of you may remember from Chatting) I used to get disconnected like every five minutes. I scrapped the dial-up thing and use Optimum online now.

Low cost ISP dial up
NetZero, or Juno.

Content or ISP Challenged dial up
AOHell

Broadband (Wireless, Cable Modem, DSL):
any cable modem service (not necessarily with the cable provider; for example, any Road Runner service, RR must provide alternative broadband services using their lines, like Verizon must share their DSL lines with their competetors). Use http://dslreports.com for broadband ISP providers of broadband with ratings on customer service.

I recommend that you don't go for DSL unless you want guarentee speed. Please note, you do share your lines with people on cable modem service. However, you do get decent speed when there are a lot of people on. When they are not, you get kick ass speed.

As for wireless connection, I am not a fan of wireless because your data exposure is way too great and you are vulerable to man in the middle attacks if you don't know what you are doing. Oh, man in the middle attacks are when you connect to a rogue router or computer (not your ISP wireless provider) for your connection and that rogue computer or router records all of you data that you are transmitting (making a copy) and then send out the data to your real ISP provider.
