Have any of you been in the sitch where you can't get promoted at work because your boss refuses to lose you.
I've seen 2 people get promoted over me because I'm "indispensable." I work my ass off and this is my reward?
It's like, gee thanks!

Then it is time to "dispense" at another job where they believe in promoting talent instead of stifling it (I think that is the American word for it.)

Sounds like my friend who was told to work hard and we will hire you in like three months. Of course, she was told this for about a year.
Start interviewing, and make sure they know. They will promote you real quick.
My friend: She found another job, gave them two weeks notice. They (old job) responded that they will have an offer for her in four days. My friend and I talked about it and she told me, "Meanwhile, I already have an offer. What a bunch of shmucks. " I agreed.

Yeah, I've been there. Just a couple of years ago in fact. One day I asked my boss's boss what I had to do for professional development/advancement. He just shrugged and said "good question, I'm not sure if I have an answer."
And that SOS was a MANAGER.
I said "well, I guess that's what I needed to hear." Then I got up, walked out, and started networking like never before. Within two months, I landed a job in another department for more $$ and a much brighter future. Plus my new management doesn't resort to sorry-ass cop-out answers to legit employee questions.
Telling the guy I was leaving and seeing the look on his face made all the effort worth it.
I can't recommend it enough.

I would start to focus my energy on getting a different job. I think this is really an excuse from your boss and a means to take advantage of your hard-working nature. Your boss probably thinks that he/she can continue to take advantage of you by telling you how "indispensable" you are. You don't want to stay stuck in this rut any longer than you already have.
good luck.

hi Stormy,
i understand where you are coming from. my last job i had to answer to a difficult boss. i felt i could only ansewer to the Lord. so i left that job for a new life in Chirst Studies. this gives me the happiness i need right now.
i am not saying that this for you. i am just saying, you have the control to make a change. like the Micheal Jackson song Man In The Mirror.
