I remember last year cab fare between NYC and Hoboken was 40.00. Now it has gone up which I don't necessarily have a problem with. But the last two times I've taken a NYC taxi back home to Hoboken, I've had the following experience: I negotiate a flat fare before getting in the taxi, and then when I get to my front door the cab drivers start balking about tolls and additional fare. Quite frankly, it steams me and although I always try to be polite, I usually leave the cab feeling cranky, tired, on the verge of being cheated and biting my tongue not to send the cabbie to that hot place, down under.
What have your experiences been and does anyone know the going rate?
Thanks!! (Oh, PS, last night I paid $50 flat.)

I have normally paid $40 this year. Flat rate, including tip & tolls. You just need to negotiate or just let him go and then find another who will take you for $40.
What I find outrageous is the illegal fare increase for the Hoboken cabs from $3 to $4. No more tips for these guys anymore. Most of the time they won't take you where you want to go anyway!! What kind of cabs are they then? It is more like "pimping for a ride" out there late at night in the freezing cold.
Good Luck
