Changes to the Site - PLEASE READ

So some people have been confused about many of the changes, so here is a brief explanation:

First of all, note that there are a number of "Cafes" running off one system. This all runs under nexuscafe.com and each Cafe or site is a subsite of the Cafe. The Hoboken Cafe, New York Nexus Cafe, and No Dating Cafe are grouped together and share the Events and classified ads. This means that if you post an event or classified ad in any one of these sites, they show up for all the sites.

The NoDating.com (or No Dating Cafe) was just added a few weeks ago. This is because of the fact that so many people use social groups to meet someone, so this caters to that. It's called No Dating, because it advocates the idea that people should spend some time to get to know one another in a "Non Dating" environment before actually dating someone. Our society does not seem to support that at the moment for some bizarre reason.

This system has a unified registration system, so that once you register, you can join any of the sites using the same user name and password. When you try to log in to another site that you have not joined with your existing username and password, you will get an error message that states you are not a member of the site and point you to a page where you can join the site. Please READ any error messages. People have a tendancy to not read the message and continue attempting to log in without first joining the new site.

Each site has a seperate mailing list. There may be some updates to this system in the near future, but for now, if you want to get the updates for each site, you have to join each mailing list seperately. There was a bug in the system so that many people who tried to join the mailing list when joining did not actually join it.

Profile access. Each user can now choose if his or her profile can be viewed by anyone, only registered users, or no one. There is a selection box when you update your user profile via the 'my info' section.

Friends! Each user has a friends list. To invite someone to your list, click on the 'invite to friends list' on the user's profile. An email will be sent with the invitation. If you want to check for invitations you can also go to the 'my info' section and click on Friend Invites'. This will list all pending invitations and allow you to accept, reject or ignore them. Please also understand that your friends are people you actually know (even if they are just aquaintences). It's not a 'Wink' feature. You need to actually go out to events to meet people. Once the invitation is accepted each user is added to the other's friends list.

Avatars. Also in the 'My Info' section. you can upload an Avatar wich is a small picture that will be shown in the friends list and Event postings. It will soon be integrated into the profiles and message boards. The pic has to be 50X60 pixels or smaller, otherwise you can't upload it.

Message boards. There have been a number of updates to the Message boards. You can add an icon to a post and in most of the boards, you can post anonymously. There are little pull down menus at the bottom of the post page to let you choose these. There are also some changes that have not yet been put into use such as registered only and Verified only access. Note that you can also embed pictures in posts using the standard HTML <IMG> tag.

The Linear view of the message boards is formated like many of the popular message boards today allowing you to view many messages in a topic of conversation at once. The threaded view is still pretty much the same.

Verified Users. The Verified User flag indicates a user that has come out to at least one event. This shows that they are a real person. It does not, however attest the the persons character, it just shows the person is real.

RSVP for events. There is now a built in RSVP feature for event postings. It's an option when you post an event. It's very similiar to Evite. You can respond with Yes, Maybe or No.

Dance Card. This is a new adition to the RSVP feature that is most suitable for singles events, but can be used for any event. When you RSVP, you can see all the other poeple who have RSVP'd and if there is someone going that you would like to talk to at the event, you can invite that person to your dance card. Each person that accepts is added to your dance card list. Note that you will not see the link next to your name because you can't invite yourself. So you can go to an event with a whole list of people to talk to. It's also a great mingling tool, because you have to find the people who are on your dance card :)

HotList. This is only active on NoDating.com. If you like someone (presumably someone you have met at an event), you can add the person to your hotlist via a link on their profile. If a person you have added has also added you, there is an indicator to show this. (that is the double blind matching).

There are more various changes, but this is the bulk of it.
