Ok...been here for 8 years and think this cafe is an excellent idea. One thing I'd like to get down and out on this weave is a "hit list" of the top idiot "meat head" bars in Hoboken. Stay away from these when you're in a low key mode:
1. Bahama Mama (the yellow flourescent paint gives it away)
2. Black Bear on Thursday night
3. Rogo's on Friday night (what the Buck)
4. Whatever that bar next to Hennesey's is calling itself these days (Riverstreet or something...HUGE no no)
5. Texas Arizona (Friday, Sat...althought Sun is nice and low key al la good burgers)
6. Bar None (is it still open?)
Any more?

I'll have to add the place at 10th and Willow. I have a love hate relationship with this place. On Saturday nights it gets packed and tends to remind me of RiverStreet with good music.

7. Cadillac Bar, but then again I don't think they let people in there that are over 21.
8. Planet Hoboken, oh no, I mean "The Planet" (got sued for calling themselves PH).

Oh man...how could I forget Cadillac Bar? What the hell is going on in there anyway? Some of the people in there remind me of those wind-up toys you see in K-Mart...
As for the Planet.....what a waste of good space. I'll admit that on a Thur or Fri, from 4:30PM-6:30PM its a good spot to hit for the $1.00 drafts (Bud / Light). After that, get the hell outa there...

I agree, 10th and willow is horrible on the weekends. sun-thurs it is totally different. You cant beat the free wings and budlight drafts for 3.00 sun-tues, especially during football season

While not low-key, I like the Cadillac Bar. I especially like Mush Mouth that plays there (excellent cover band). I usually only hang out in mellow places, but for a fun time I go there, usually around holidays.
Of course, if you're expecting an intellectually stimulating experience, I'd go somewhere else :)

The last time I was in Bahama Mamas (?sp?) some random bride-to-be insisted on drawing flowers on my belly.
I was also seen mooning on a blone-brunette-red combination (to do with some treasure hunt also related to getting married -- I blame the $2 margaritas).
I haven't been back since... (although I have been tempted...)
Not a place for a "quiet drink".
btw -- what defines "meathead" ?

Oh man!!! Been there once and have had a hard time forgetting about it ever since. I can still smell the Aqua Velva and Polo in there when I walk by.

What's to like about Bahama Mama's? The conversation? The atmosphere? Maybe I'm missing something. Are there differnt crowds in there during the week or something?
