Anyone see this yet and have comments.
Been hearing and reading lots of disappointment unless you want a totally mindless violence filled movie. But will it be enjoyable and worth my $10 bucks????
Comments please.

I *really* wanted to like this movie but I am sad to report that is dissapoints in a big way. I am a big fan of the original 5 movies and a big Mark Wahlberg fan so my expectations were high. "Shallow" and "2-Dimensional" are word that come to mind. All except for 3 characters are completely useless and the ending is laughable.
Now, it is not the worst movie I have ever seen - it's no "Battlefield Earth" or anything. I would say see it but just don't get your hopes up. If you are up for a mindless action film and lots of cool costuming and special effects then it is worth th $10.00.
I am losing more respect for Burton each time he comes out with a new film. Oh and the females Apes look like crack-addicted muppets.
C'est la vie.

I held out seeing it to hear peoples reactions and except for the costumes and graphics I haven't heard anything to positive about the flick. I am also a big fan of the original series of movies and I think I'll just wait until this one comes out on video. For some reason I don't think movies are based on stories or plots anymore because technology is so advanced..it's like big budget productions with "state of the art graphics" are the only types of movies that make it to the screen in wide release anymore. (Yeah it's monday and I DEFINATELY need more coffee)

From what I have heard, the movie is not worth all of the hype it has received.... My advice is to wait until it comes on video

Saw it yesterday.
It's not the worst film I've ever seen (that dubious prize goes to "Vietnam Texas"). But it has to be in the bottom 10.
The whole thing was boring. The special effects were nice -- but the ending made me cringe. Oh, and the whole 'we can do it' speech made me want to vomit.
I wouldn't even bother renting on DVD.

Yep, lucky I was invited to a private screening at the News Corp. on Friday, because I would have wasted $10....!!
I agree, a part from the costumes and the sets, the movie was not that good.
Wait to rent it.

I liked the effects and the little in jokes like the Heston cameo. I still can't believe he let them do that. But the ending didn't quite make sense. Where in time had he been the primordal past but he thought it was the future, so when he left he went back to the future? Was that supposed to be a joke too? If you're gonna make plot changes they have got to be a bit less murky. I think the first series made more sense logically(if it is possible to say such a thing about sci-fantasy movies like Planet of the Apes).

Never saw the originals. They look like fun. As for the new one, you could not drag me kicking and screaming. I'd rather glue my eyelids shut than watch that garbage!
Alec Baldwin should've been one of the apes.....after all, he's just as hairy.

I thought he'd jumped forward in time the first time, and even further ahead the second, (assuming they weren't in parallel times).
But I loved the Charlton Heston cameo too, ...for those that didn't see it he plays a patriarch who tells his son what an evil thing the gun is! and yet Heston is the patron of the NRA. That little gem wasn't even lost on me the Brit-Twit.

I think you're right...partially. I think he jumped forward the first time, then backward the second but didn't realize it. I have always loved Heston's campy over-the-top acting, though his politics make me want to vomit. His cameo was hysterical because of the NRA thing and because he repeats his "damn them all to Hell" line from the original movie, but this time he is an ape referring to humans and their destructiveness. And he's holding as gun! Either he didn't understand what Tim Burton was doing, and I think not, or he actually does have a sense of humor about his own image.
