Ok, this is my first time living in a "city" type environment and I've never experienced a power outage before....NEVER and then at around 9:30 last night it looked like almost all of Hoboken went dark. My boyfriend and I didn't even have a flashlight in the house. Just wondering what everyone else thought about and did last night. I panicked and then went drinking at Liberty Bar hoping the lights would be on when I came home. They came on at midnight for a little while then when out again until this morning....the whole thing was so agravating!!!!!!!!!!!
Feels good to rant a little :)

I was drinking in McSwiggins when it happened.
I quite enjoyed it to be honest.
No TV. No Music. Candle-light.
We actually had a civilised conversation.
And a drunken sing-a-long.
Quite disappointed when the lights came back on.
BTW. Is there any bar in Hoboken WITHOUT a TV in it? I hate it. Kills conversation and I keep finding myself being drawn in.

I was at Rodeo's Open Mic night when the lights went out. Despite the outage, the performances continued. I didn't stay though, simply because I feared the yuppies would riot if the bar stopped serving alcohol....lol. Seriously, I decided to enjoy the NYC lights overlooking the park.

I've experienced many power outages pretty much everywhere that I've lived (although most were very brief, luckily)m but this reminds me of one time when I was at the open mic night at the Liquid Lounge (R.I.P.), which was my favorite bar before it sadly closed down in February (now it's called the Goldhawk), sometime last August and I witnessed something I'd never seen before: a power line ON FIRE across the street. Of course, the fire trucks came and a few blocks on Park Ave. were closed off and because of the work that had to be done on the line, power was temporarily out for about 30-45 minutes. The performances continued, however, and I stayed and as always, had a great time there. It's too bad that place isn't around anymore. I really miss it. Anyone else agree?

Wierd, I had a couple of light brownouts, not enough to turn the TV off, just enough to dim the lights, but no outage. It's a good thing I asked for extra squirrels in the generator when I signed my lease.

I was at Oneials last night when the black out hit. They still had power. One guy came in and said that all the bars on Washington were all out. I stayed there and had a few more drinks since I didn't know if my place was in the blackout area.

Hey! I signed up early to read at [Rodeo] Ristra Open Mic, ate at the Malaysian placewith Amos and between eating the appetizer and getting the entree the lights went out and traffic lights beeped, we ate in birthday-candle and exit-sign light, and after dessert went back to Ristra, and I was the next one to read [I originally planned to hear both before and after me but wound up just listening after, I also thought they would either leave or hold off until the power came back on]
Were you there last week? I was - I read last week too

Last week I read Custom-made, Fire Escape and Cysticercosis
[these and 5 other poems - 2 of which (Sideways shot and Unprivate death collection) I read after the blackout this Tuesday - but you said you had left by then - appear on www.poormojo.org]
I was the second person who read, after the first band, the woman whose drawings appeared upstairs in the back, and another band
