Hey all... I'm thinking of heading out tonight. Anyone got any recommendations of places to check out? I'm new to the Hoboken nightlife scene, so I'm not familiar with many of the bars. Any suggestions for places with friendly people (preferably where I won't be the only one over 25!) and/or good live music?

The Mile Square has a good happy hour and the people are friendly and generally in their mid-late twenties. City Bistro on 14th St. has the cool rooftop bar, but you'll want to get there early to snag a seat. I used to like going to the Liquid Lounge on Park (kind of artsy crowd, fun live bands) but now they've changed owners and I don't know if it's the same vibe.

Come out to Maxwell's tonight (corner of Washington and 11th Sts.). Glenn Tillbrook, formerly of Squeeze, is playing a solo show there tonight. It starts at 7:30 (it's an early show). There's an opener and he goes at 8:15. I should advise you that the $15 cover charge may seem a bit steep, I've seen him play solo before and believe me, it's worth it. And while you probably won't have any trouble getting in (the show's not sold out, as far as I know), I'd get my tickets as early as possible. They can be purchased at Tunes (Washington between 2nd and 3rd) or at the club itself during the night of the show (provided it isn't sold out, of course). As for the crowd, it'll be a mix of 20 and 30 something hipsters or ex-hipsters, die-hard Squeeze fans and few older folks, I think.
Matt
P.S. I already posted about this show a few days ago, so sorry for repeating myself here. I hope to see some of you there.

Yes I'm positive that it's tonight. You probably have the schedule that they put out at the beginning of the month, which sometimes doesn't include spur-of-the-moment added shows (like this one; I only found out about it on Monday). The deal is this: Glenn Tillbrook is playing an early show which starts at 7:30 and the Lawndarts, Anderson Council (who are a very good band that everyone should check out, BTW) show starts at 10:30, so they're having 2 shows tonight. I also thought about attending the later show (it's only $6) since I like the Anderson Council, but I think I'm just gonna go home and sleep after Glenn Tillbrook since it's been a long week, to say the least.

I actually like the Cadillac bar on Friday nights. They usually have a great cover band in the front room playing songs from the 80's, another room with dance/techno music and a third room as well. There's something for everyone there and it's FUN. I usually see a mixed crowd and it's definatley a partying crowd - ok it's mostly a younger crowd but I see my share of the over 25 crowd. I'm 29 and always feel comfortable there - I'm to busy enjoying the music and having a great time to notice really :)

I ventured into Bar None last weekend and quite enjoyed the atmosphere. The DJ played mainly hip hop, which was a refreshing change of pace for a Hoboken bar. The crowd was roughly 25+ yrs old and not all seemed to be yuppies.
