Cable TV?

Since 9-11 my TV reception stinks. I'm finally going to break down and get cable. Well, I called Cablevision and they tried to tell me that no one in my building (two-family townhouse) has had cable before. There is physical evidence in my apartment that the previous tenant did have cable (the cable coming out of the wall into what is my bedroom, but was his living room, is a dead giveaway). Is there another cable company serving Hoboken of which I'm unaware? Is cablevision trying to pull something? Any help or advice would be greatly appreaciated.

Thanks,
Denise

i've been living in Hoboken for 6 years and don't know of any other cable company (cablevision came in a year or so after i moved here). i did have something in my room that looked like a cable tv outlet, but they didn't make use of it when i got cable installed. it (and what you have) might be the remains of a roof top antenna set-up or something. or cablevision might just be lying. regardless, are they trying to charge more since no one had cable? i was the first in my building and it didn't seem like a big deal.

I almost got cable too. Most channels are coming in now, I'm getting everything but 13, which is rebroadcast on 25 during the evening. Most of the stations have relocated to the Empire State Building.

Don't break down, hold out! You don't need cable! :)

I tried to hold out. I, too, am getting most channels now, but the reception is so bad I fear for my eyesight. I don't have a roof antenna, just a pair of 'rabbit ears'. I think I have to break down and pay for cable. Oh well.
