There is a place on Washington, and I think it is the corner of 5th street. Right beside "Supercuts" and on the opposite side of Blockbuster. It is pretty small, but great food. Sorry I can't remember the name.

I've got to disagree on the place next to Supercuts-- I gave the place 3 tries, and each time my food arrived cold, and I hate cold eggs.
I like the Mexican breakfast at East LA, but haven't found a really great place in town.
When I feel the need for brunch, I usually trek over to Old Devil Moon in the East Village. Love that place!

I am sorry you had a bad experience there.
Let me suggest 2 other places then:
1.- Zafra. Corner of Willow and 3rd. Great Cuban place.
2.- La Isla. Right on Washington, almost at the corner of 1st street, next to Impostos. Very small, almost imposible to get a table, but well worth the wait. Also Cuban.

La Isla is very good- never did the brunch there though.
One of the great things about working from home in Hoboken is that it's so easy to get a seat for lunch absolutely anywhere!

I have to second the recommendation of La Isla here. I've never had their brunch, either, but their Thursday night oxtail stew (rabo encendido) special is the greatest. The place is definitely NOT for vegeterians, though. As for brunch places I'd recommend in town, I'd have to say Amanda's and also East L.A., although I got food poisoning from East L.A. once (this was when I had dinner there), so be careful, though the food is usually good there.
Matt
P.S. The Old Devil Moon rules, though I haven't been there in years.

as a vegetarian, yeah, I can say the pickings at La Isla are a bit slim, but they are still tasty. My carnivorous friends have an easier time of it there.
Has anyone tried Maxwell's Sunday brunch? Are they still doing it?
