money saving tips for unemployed

Recently laid off, I have been finding new and creative ways to save money...Saving on electricity: keep all lights off except for those absolutely necessary...having the lights off also creates that kafka-esque ambiance you want to have when you are not generating an income...you don't want to be spending money either, by running up the electricity bill, after all what is the point really? what is the point of any of it??? ok...keep the heat off. your toes will be cold and this will be a constant reminder of your impovrished state...it will reinforce the kafkaesque no lights thing...wear a lot of sweaters with holes in them when you are in the house with no lights and no heat. this will make you look very starving artist-like, also, drink a lot of hot tea (not heated up mind you, but made with hot or lukewarm tapwater) this will warm your fingers a little and fend off the hunger pangs 'cuz you're going to be eating less, non of that comfort food stuff...during unemployment your physique will change....you will able to cancel your new york sports club membership. that's 80 dollars a month or more! by no means will you buy the classifieds. when the employed people come home on the path train, you will wait by a receptacle for one of them to gluttonously dispose of one. okay, enough of that. i hope someone finds this funny:)

Pretty funny, Elmermaid... you should submit that to the back page of the Current: current@hudsonreporter.com.

Here's another tip: Don't spend $3 on the New York Times on Sunday. Instead, go to Starbuck's and get breakfast for $3 (like a bagel and juice). Then go to the newspaper recycling thingy on the side and pick up the Times-es that people have already read and put back. You can read it free while you eat breakfast! Only problem is, the classifieds might have holes in them. ;)

Try to get ANYTHING from family - don't be ashamed either...
That's what I did until I was making a living...

Just a suggestion - lots of board of ed.'s in NJ are looking for teachers.

NY is also looking for teachers. Heard a newsreport on how they were hiring out of the country to get teachers in new york (back in late august). Though my opinion is "hey, here's a thought. pay them more money and advertise it."

Sorry Elmermaid,
Been spotty work myself since June.

But why even worry about the NY times, when you can look for work for free online.

Good luck

Hey, anyone know how much one makes at Starbuck to make coffee.

The 1st post was funny. Sorry that you got laid off, I had the same fate in July. I decided to kick back and enjoy the time off. My company needed me back short term and I charged them a nice little fee as a freelancer. Now i'm off to Florida followed by a trip down under
