One of my friends works for the family business. He's an Acct. Exec for their Display manufacturing company. I think he has it easy when it comes to work hours. If he needs to get to the Country Club for an early evening T-off or leave early on a Friday, for a long weekend, etc., etc., all he has to do is ask Daddy.

On the other hand, he has a big stake in keeping the company together and since he is the only son will probably be counted on to run things one day.... a little pressure there.

LOL! I think that sounds far more sinister than was intended! Do you have to report to the godfather every morning? ;)

I worked for my dad from the time I was 16 until I was a junior in college... after school and weekends when I was in HS, school breaks the first couple years of college. He owned a gas station/repair shop at the time... I pumped gas, changed tires, fixed flats, looked after the parts inventory, little stuff like that. I loved it. (I know, I know, not a very womanly job!)

My dad was a strict boss, but because it was a family busines (my mom also worked for him) I took extreme pride in what I was doing. I found it brought me closer to both of my parents, which was cool, considering my early teens were spent locking horns with my dad.

Honestly, I wish it paid anything near what I make now... sure I stunk of gasoline and melted in the summer and froze in the winter, but in a lot of ways it was better than sitting in a stuffy corporate office all day.

I know from working with my father and mother when I was 8 that I pick up good and bad habits. Actually one good and bad habit. I am now a workacholic. But I am changing so I can enjoy life and not work constantly for life. But keep the work ethic.

yeah, I find it hard working for family but then all of a sudden it has its great points - I can basically come and go when I want but not always.
