Help me out guys - I want to open a cozy cafe with cyber gaming technology (like Alienware) and awesome food - tapas, dimsum on weekends, beer & wine and the best coffee you've ever had. I've looked around town and there seems to be only one or the other, never a nice combination. Do you think this concept would work in Hoboken?

First hurdle is the liquor license, from what I understand they are difficult and expensive to get.
Second hurdle what clientele are you aiming for, from the menu it sounds like adults. Considering there are a few broadband options in Hoboken, what advantage is there to the consumer to leave they're comfy apartment with the P4 2gig and cable modem and go and play counterstrike at your establishment? Kids who don't the cash to buy their own computer and have to use their parents may be more interested in using your gaming machines.
I'm not trying to shoot down you idea, I don't own a business and never have, but these would be some of my concerns if I were planning a similar venture. Good Luck.

I think its a good idea. People go to cyber cafes to meet other people, get out of the house, etc. I think it would be a much better alternative to the frat bars. The gaming environment would be social. Tapas is popular. Like someone said before, the liquor licence might be a challenge, but I dont know much about obtaining a liquor licence in Hoboken. I wish you the best of luck. I want to own my own business myself (dont worry I am not looking to get into the food industry). I am sick of working for the corporate man.

I've already been told about the liquor license - a major hurdle. As for clientele, I was thinking the Stevens crowd as well as those 25-35, looking for a place other than a bar to hang out in. As for the equipment, P4 2 gig is SLOW compared to a T1 line. Alienware is a high performance gaming/desktop system and, while I'm not familiar with the specs (my husband is the techno geek), I have to admit that it's one sexy computer!
Thanks for the feedback. It ALL counts at this point:-)

You totally get the idea! I mean I do enjoy Hoboken but aside from a few decent restaurants, the hood is filled with bars. My husband and I are convinced that there are those out there (like us) who just wanna hang out with some friends over appetizers/desserts and great coffee or whatever.
I need to do research and find these types of people - question is...how?
Thanks for your feedback:-)
