I'm new to this site and forum but would be interested to hear what some of you consider all time favorites or even a movie you just thought had a certain flavor to it. Here's my partial list in no order.

Goodfellas
Dawn of the Dead
Happy Gilmore
True Romance
Reservior Dogs
Total Recall
Independence Day

And of course, here are some movies that may not be very well known but hold a special place in my dvd collection ;p

They Live
Deep Rising
Zombie
Krull

Welcome!

Wow, of the movies you listed the only one I saw [lay off, I heard of some of the others and reservoir dogs is in my list of must-sees...] [and liked a lot] was Total Recall

There are stupid-assed movies that I like, wacky-assed movies that I like, independent-assed movies and of course [where is Mike to roll his eyes] foreign-assed ones [not mutually exclusive categories]

Favorites is a lot of pressure, some movies I like a lot:

Being John Malkovich
Bhaji on the beach
The Big Lebowski
The City of Lost Children
The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover
Delicatessen
Fargo
Office Space
Scotland, PA
Silence of the Lambs
Tampopo
Twin falls, Idaho

There are lots of other ones, but this is a start

Office Space was pretty funny, that's been on my list of movies to watch again.

Can't say I have seen many of the others on your list, just a few. I know you will think this is wierd but I have a fetish for 70's made italian and spain zombie movies. Directors like Umberto Lenzi and Lucio Fulci were the low budget zombie movie masters.

What's really hilarious is the directors and actors in these movies. I watched many interviews with them and it's always the same routine. The directors say the movie in question (like zombie 2, children of the dead, etc) was a minor work when they started out. The actors say they barely remember starring in it. They just don't make them like that anymore :)

Never seen a Lenzi movie. I'm certainly avoiding the ones where he kills real animals.

Some of my favs:

Once Upon a Time in the West (on DVD 11/18!)
Rider on the Rain
The Mechanic
Hard Times
Claudine
Shaft series
Suspiria
Charade
Sunset Blvd
James Bond
The Great Escape
The Devil in Miss Jones (yeah, I know it's XXX)
Crouching Tiger
Ghost World
The Taking of Pelham 123"

Go see "Lost in Translation!"

I saw a really sick Fulci movie called "The New York Ripper." It's about this psycho who talks like Donald Duck (and says "quack" too) and kills women in very graphic ways. He kills because he is sad for his sick little child.

Nothing like a good 70's horror film. I forgot to add "Deep Red, " "The Wicker Man," "Deranged," and "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" to my list.

Josh, to the best of my knowledge the only movie(s) he killed real animals in was one or more of his cannibal movies. I believe it was cannibal holocaust that a few bit the dust. To the best of my recollection he never did it in his zombie movies.

steved,

I believe you're right on that count. I'm curious as to why I'm against onscreen animal killings but eat meat and wear whatever. Maybe it's because one has a legit purpose...

How did PETA miss this stuff?
