I just read in TONY that Tom Waits and Robert Wilson made an opera adaption of the famous play Woyzeck by Georg Buechner. It plays at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and I am considering going next Saturday. Anybody interested in joining me?

Woyzeck is a nihilist tragedy and ranks in German literature next to Goethe's Faust, etc. See

There is also a famous opera adaption of Woyzeck composed by Alban Berg, an Austrian composer. At the time when it was composed (in the 1910/20's), atonal and 12-tone music were popular among Austrian composers. Therefore this opera has such elements and is quite difficult/strange. I am convinced that Tom Wait's music is not like this but still I am curious to hear how he, being a pop artist, deals with the play.

By the way, tickets cost $30-$80 and the lyrics for the songs are in English (by Tom Waits).
