Not only does my picture's name have no unusual characters or spaces, it's path has none either (C:\sunriseat20000feet.jpg). Upon activating the upload, the server response takes at least a minute to tell me I didn't select a photo. That should take seconds, so I'm wondering if the error message is actually a default error that the server kicks out if an upload time-out occurs. I wonder if the upload speed is just too slow on my dial-up connection, and maybe the server eventually times out the process and then inappropriately defaults to the 'no file selected' message?

How big (how many bytes) is the file you are trying to upload? If could be that your file is too big. Email me the file I will take a look.
