Lead Bioinformatics System Engineer
REQUIREMENTS: BS/MS Degree in Computer Science, Science,Engineering or equivalent experience. 3-5 years of bioinformatics applications development experience; prior pharmaceutical experience is a plus. Solid database and software design and development skills in Oracle PL/SQL, Java (SCJP), EJB, CORBA, Perl, JavaScript, C, Shell Script, XML, UML. Familiarity with bioPerl, bioPython, bioJava, bioCORBA and other bioinformatics industrial Standards. Solid bioinformatics systems administration skills inSolaris/NT Oracle, Web. Must have an understanding of current and new bioinformatics technologies and related concepts, including gene finding, EST analysis, genome annotation, gene expression profiling and proteomics analysis. Knowledge of pharmaceutical R&D processes, particularly the application of computer technology to optimize those processes, is desirable. Must possess a clear understanding and appreciation of software design and development techniques, as well as associated technical skills and related tools. Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communications skills are required. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Bioinformatics applications development in support of bioinformatics, genomics and Proteomics. Responsible for reviewing user requirements, writing technical specifications, writing code, documenting the execution of any unit testing, and integrating related tools. Perform complex systems analysis and recommend technical solutions to assist the business in achieving project objectives. Evaluate vendor proposals to aid assessments regarding in-house verses the outsourcing of, technical development efforts. Responsible for conducting periodic technical reviews of in-house developed software to ensure conformance to coding standards. Develop and maintain a positive business relationship with key R&D IT areas. Proactively identify new trends and technologies for application within the company, review and evaluate the capabilities of existing systems, and possess a clear understanding of the system development and maintenance life cycle. Some domestic and international travel required. Ability to perform necessary project management.
