Wireless

I recently got a laptop and I wanted to use the Wireless Internet Service at various areas where I hang out. I was wondering what your experiences were on wireless network (like the T-Mobile at Starbucks and Borders). If you can let me know about your experiences, that would be great.

Recently, I heard Barnes and Noble will have a Wi-Fi network on all of their locations by Sept 2004 (via the use of Cometa http://www.cometanetworks.com/press/bn_030904.shtml), which would be great for me since I love to hang out at B&N.

Well, I just discovered that Barnes and Noble have installed WiFi in some of their stores already. In the 8th Street location discovered this very quickly. There is no encryption so beware of sniffers looking at stray traffic. It is great for research but bad for transactional pieces (banks, e-mail.)

I also got an e-mail from B&N telling me that by next week, all of the stores will have it for free for you to try as they experiment and that there will be a locator website for you to find the latest update on where they have spots.

These folks also have McDonalds as well though I will NEVER buy stuff at McDonald just to try out their service unless I was really desperate.

BTW, it is currently free until they can set up a Customer Service for B&N.

I believe there's WIFI at Panera on 3rd and Washington in Hoboken.

Cometa folds as VC dries up.

Apparently, the implementation for wireless at Barnes and Noble has failed. This is most disappointing
