Hair help desperately needed!

Can anyone recommend a really good and trustworthy stylist?
I have pretty problematic hair (very thin, very fine), it's just hanging miserably in no apparent 'do', my daughter is getting married on June 20, I have to see the ex (we're both walking her down the aisle) and his entire extended family, not to mention 100 other people, and I look like a sad disaster in way too many respects. Oh, also the 10 yr. younger than me 2nd wife and their kid. Waah.

I understand that I am not the center of attention on this occasion, but I'm incredibly anxious about the whole affair and very self-conscious (also failed to lose the planned-on 15 lbs, or tone my shouldn't-be-showing-them upper arms for the sleeveless dress I'm wearing). That was a bad idea. All I really want, not much, is an extreme makeover, and it's not happenin. I'll spare you the list of all the other things I'm not feeling o.k. about, concerning my appearance and...blah, blah, all the rest.

So....I can at least, maybe, come up with a good-as-possible cut. I need someone who is willing to discuss possibilities w/me and will actually try to do what we decide on - not just dive in and chop hair off in a disinterested, who-cares way.

Anyone know someone who is both talented AND approachable?
And well under $100? - if possible. Wish I had some big bucks to spend on a stylin star, but I don't. I will be eternally grateful, and you will be sowing fine karmic seeds.

Thank you, thank you, from the freaked out, stressed out, M.O.T.B.

Go to Erli (pronounced "early") at Arrojo Studio, 180 Varick http://www.arrojostudio.com/

He's the best! He gives you honest suggestions and will treat your tresses like a masterpiece. It is less than $100, although barely, but it is well worth it.

Also, for the special occasion, I might consider getting my makeup done professionally. I'm not someone who wears that much makeup on a daily basis, but I think professionals can do amazing things.

Good Luck!!!!

I really appreciate your response. I will call today and see if I can hook up with Erli soon. Sounds like an interesting place - I went the website. My daughter is having makeup done by someone and I'm going to find out if she can do me as well.

Thanks again for the recommendation. Maybe I'll survive this!

Xavatea,
I see you are in Hoboken...peeked on your bio.
i just went to IMAGO on Washington St bet 2 and 3 for the first time.
I would highly recommend them!
They listened and htne did an incredible job.
And at $50 for a cut...it is reasonable.

Hi-
We can all relate to the "want to look good in front of the ex" stress.
Think about getting a massage a couple of days before...and maybe a little tanning?

If you feel relaxed and good, you will look good!!

Hey, hobolady, thanks very much for your salon suggestion. Somehow I missed this response - just saw when I got on the board now for yet another "who do I call" query. I've gotten several other ideas from people, but have yet to make appt. anywhere. Today was to be the 'commit' day.

Do you recall the name of the person who worked on your hair? I'd prefer to request whoever it is, if possible. One stylist might be terrific, others....

While I'm writing to you, I suppose I might as well ask you my latest ?, which is if you know a Hoboken agency that writes car insurance. I've made a number of calls but am not finding what I need (stopped insuring cars, way too expensive, takes many days to get quote, etc.) I've dithered my way into Hoboken Parking Permit Extensions DMV Hell Week and, of course, need insurance this instant. I don't even drive my car, ever, and have screwed up my plan to have sold it long ago so I wouldn't be in this situation! I'm about to put a "just take it" sign in the window.

Thanks for reading these ramblings, if you have.

Hi Xavatea,
i havent been on this site in a few days...at IMAGO I went to Steven (owner).
I got rid of my car a few years ago and couldnt tell you about the insurance thing....maybe someone else with active insurance can assist you.
Good luck with the hair! ...and the wedding...
