Hi,
My condo was cited for not having a fire rate door during the NJ State HOusing Inspection. Does anyone know what this is? Can it be remedied by installing one of those conical dealies with 2 arms and hinges to propel the door closed?
Thanks,
Windy

Go down to the door district and ask some questions it's right next to the hammock district downtown. But, seriously, most doors have a rating. When you purchase the door it should have that information on a certificate. Is it an outer door where there are two or more residences? Like a fire exit. Or is it the door to your apartment?

It is the door to my unit. It has passed many inspections before this one. It is also the same door everyone else has but they haven't been cited. I think it has something to do with the fact that the door does not close by itself. However, I don't know how to remedy the situation. Thanks for any replies.

Maybe it is as simple as the hinges? Perhaps spring loaded? It seems like over kill to put one of those arm monstrosities on your entrance. They are quite ugly. I have a large heavy steel door and it has some pretty large spring action hinges. It does close behind you. You always have to have your keys on you, because you can get locked out easily. Sorry I can't be of much help.

Do you own this unit or rent from a landlord? The Landlord should take care of this when you rent.
