Firekeeper,

Namaste :)

Thank you, they are all fine and growing fast :))

I am thoroughly enjoying the teaching, my mother in law and I teach together which has worked out beautifully and is especially nice since it was through her that I 'found' Reiki or should I say that Reiki found me :))

Anyway, hope all is well with Coyote's clan too :)

Gentle Blessings
Helen

Helen,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- I am glad your clan is doing well.

>:-}}

- Our Coyote\Bear Clan is very well at the moment, thanks.

- however, one of the clan is scheduled to ship out to Iraq at the end of the month for what is advertised as a "probable 3-month tour". He teaches at West Point but is required to have some "combat exposure" so gets his turn this summer.

- we, of course, would prefer he be able to stay safely home with his family. But, being a Viet Nam vet myself I know that, while you are in the armed forces, you go where they send you (irregardless of whether you agree with policy or not) and do the best you are able.

>:-}}

- take care.

Firekeeper,

Namaste :)

Glad to hear that the clan are all well :)

I understand how you feel about one of the clan going out to Iraq, I would feel the same too if it were one of mine.

Helen,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- speaking of travels, the trip through Africa you posted about on another board must have been quite brilliant.

When did this adventure occur, if I may inquire?

Firekeeper,

Namaste :))

I went in 1991 with my husband....before we were married :)) We travelled as part of a group of 38 on two big trucks, camping everynight, cooking over an open fire. We started from Morocco,Algeria, crossed the Sahara, Niger, West Africa, Central Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, Malawi and landed in Zimbabwe several months later, my husband and I got engaged at Victoria Falls :) It was one of the most amazing and character building year's of my life. I learnt my strengths and weaknesses and it game me a whole different perspective on life, not least to see how much I had taken for granted in my sheltered Western life... :)

Zaire(now the Congo) was probably our favourite country, although one of the most under developed and poorest. Travelling through it was very challenging, not least because the roads are mud tracks. Somehow it was like going back to the important things in life, Up at dawn, bed not long after the sun went down, not eating much but enough and what we did eat was free range and organic :)) We also managed to arrange a guide and organise a trip to see the mountain gorillas, which was incredible....we were so privileged :)

Many times I was scared, ill and at those times I longed for home :) But I am so very glad that I had the opportunity to go and experience Africa in the way that we did. I think that had we not been blessed with children, that we would have probably gone back out there and worked with one of the Aid Agencies. When the kids have all flown the nest, I would love to go back there for a while :)

Sorry this post has turned out so long! My friends here know not to get me started on Africa...bagl

Gentle Blessings
Helen

Helen,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- Africa is a lot to try and cram into 1 year; and such as year might easily take a lifetime to process

>:-}}}}

- and engaged at V. Falls?? Zounds!!!! Brilliant.

>:-}}}

- to spend a year in another country (or countries), away from the relative comfyness of USA or UK, is indeed a privilege

- I spent a year in Thailand, back in the late 60s - not as primitive as parts of Africa I am sure but, for the most part, very impoverished. Beautiful Buddhist temples everywhere - Most were free to enter and photograph - getting out without a donaton was another matter

bagl, bagl, bagl,

- thanks for sharing a bit about your trip

- take care,

Reiki all around,

all blessings,

Peter

Probably more than one lifetime I suspect :))

Is there ever any such thing as free? lolol

Thailand always sounds wonderful, as does India....so many beautiful places in our world :)

Hi Helen,

I really enjoyed reading about your African adventures. They sound wonderful.
Although I was born in SA and lived there for 27 years, I mainly experienced the narrow-minded western lifestyle very much based on fear and colour-mindedness within the city and suburbia confines.
It took going to a multiracial university for me to have my eyes opened and to start appreciating the diversity of the land of my birth. And to leave, to really appreciate where I had lived.

Your RC name is Rainbow... did you know that SA is known as the Rainbow Nation? Because of all the different tribes, colours and creeds all coming together to form a new nation.
There is lots wrong with SA, but I have never experienced the spirt of reconcilliation anywhere else in the world to the extent which I experienced it since 1994 when the new government came into being.
I too can go one for pages and pages about SA!

I have only ever seen SA, Namibia (never got to Vic Falls) and Swaziland, but one day I would love to return to travel through the rest of Africa.
Since being away, the call of my african roots call stronger and stronger... one day.

Today, in one month exactly, I will be returning to visit my friends and family. It is all I think about lately! Amongst other things, we'll be going into the Kruger National Park to see the big five. Ahhhh...

Blessings fellow traveller
